Spacious Self-Catering Villa
De Poort Cottage offers a two-bedroom villa with two bathrooms and a large living room. The kitchen comes fully equipped with a wide range of crockery, but no microwave. Extra blankets and tabbards are provided. The house layout keeps cool during hot days, though there is no air conditioning or fans. Windows lack insect gauze, so mosquitoes can be an issue at night.
Self-Catering Kitchen
Since there is no restaurant, guests cook their own meals. The kitchen has everything needed for a comfortable stay, including a braai fireplace inside the house. Guests can request extra bags of wood for the hot tub and braai, paying only for what they use. The property does not provide a microwave, but the fireplace and stove cover cooking needs.
Outdoor and Wildlife
The outdoor hot tub runs on wood (Rooi-krans works well) and takes about three hours to heat up. You can request the owner to start it before arrival. Two canoes are available for the dam in front of the cottage, which is also suitable for swimming. Wildlife is abundant: watch baboons, fish eagles, herons, sunbirds, and bats. The terrace is a great spot to relax, but note that spotlights at night are not connected, so visibility after dark is poor.
Isolated Nature Setting
De Poort Cottage is 200 km from Cape Town International Airport, in a private and quiet area near Bredasdorp. The access road has large potholes, so a regular car may struggle; a bakkie or off-road vehicle is better. Guests can day-trip to Struisbaai and Waenhuiskrans. The location is surrounded by nature with a dam, birds, and other wildlife. The peace and serenity are major draws, but note that the cottage is remote and there are no nearby shops or restaurants.
Pet-Friendly Amenities
Pets are welcome, and guests with dogs enjoyed the space. Free WiFi is available and sufficient for social media. Free parking is on-site. The owner provides the WiFi password before arrival. For the hot tub, you can request a pre-heat and order extra wood in advance. There is no air conditioning, fan, or insect screens, so plan accordingly. The check-out time is 10:00, and staff may arrive early to prepare.
